His career began in Citibank's legal and compliance function, where he monitored financial-services regulatory developments and supported the implementation of AML and BSA policies. He later practiced corporate and securities law in New York, advising on private offerings, fund formation, mergers and acquisitions, commercial agreements, and transaction closings.

Syed founded Counselize in 2017 to provide coordinated legal, compliance, and tax advice to regulated and cross-border businesses. His approach is practical. He identifies the regulatory issue early, establishes the appropriate structure, and carries it through documentation, filing, and implementation.
